Sermon 8-1-10
“STUFF”
August 1, 2010 (T&W)
GRACE, MERCY AND PEACE TO YOU FROM GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. AMEN
As you listened to our readings today, did you catch that they all deal with “STUFF”? Stuff we have, stuff we want, stuff we do and stuff we don’t do? Even other people’s “stuff”!
Sermon 7-18-10
BALANCING ACT
July 18, 2010 (T&W)
GRACE, MERCY AND PEACE TO YOU FROM GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. AMEN
Did you catch the thread that ties our texts together this morning? Something we are all involved in both as individuals and in our church? Something that can bring us great joy and also great stress?
If you voted for hospitality, you would be right. Hospitality… the act that is so important in the lives of Abraham, the psalmist, Martha, and Jesus in our texts and ultimately in our lives.
Sermon 7-10-10
TEACH ME
July 11, 2010 (T&W)
GRACE, MERCY AND PEACE TO YOU FROM GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. AMEN
It is always amazing to me how some things stick in your mind. Things that defy even “Senior Moments”, which for those of you too young to experience, are the greatest excuse in the world.
Our psalm this morning is one of those things. I first found Psalm 25 when I was having difficulties at work and therefore with life in general. Psalm 23 had, since my mother’s death, been my “go to” place in the bible when troubled.
As I was opening my bible my eyes caught the words in Psalm 25, obviously close enough to the 23rd that searching was not necessary, it was just there.
As I skimmed the words all of a sudden I tuned into, “Show me your ways, O Lord, and teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; in you I have trusted all the day long.”
Sermon 6-27-10
SONS OF THUNDER
June 27, 2010
GRACE, MERCY AND PEACE TO YOU FROM GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. AMEN
“Lord, do you want US to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” Can you imagine saying that while walking along side Jesus, the Messiah, the one who has been performing miracles all over the countryside?
And yet, according to our gospel, that is exactly what James and John did. James and John, the disciples who with Peter were more often mentioned with Jesus than any of the other disciples. James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who Jesus nicknamed “The Sons of Thunder”.
